Is Final Destination Based On A True Story

Are The Final Destination Movies About Real Stories?

The Final Destination movies are pretty insane in terms of “believability.”  Some of the deaths are simply down-right unlikely and of course the supernatural nature of the movies make them feel safer. Still, a lot of similar deaths have been documented. People around the world, have (unfortunately) suffered some pretty horrible fates that sound both, unlikely and unbelievable in nature. Some deaths are more like the plot in Final Destination, where a tragedy is side skirted one day, only to return another.  Some even involve actual plane crashes.  There are also real life deaths which have been extremely graphic, while also complicated…much like the movies.  In short, yes, Final Destination is possibly based on real events and many of these cases basically prove it!

Real Life Examples of Final Destination

There are some really crazy coincidences out there, and sometimes, they involve death! Like the popular Final Destination franchise, these deaths are very similar to the outrageous sequence of events many of the characters suffer throughout the movies.

Drowning in a Water Bowl

In 2001, a swimming coach tripped and fell on some concrete. The fall knocked him out and he slid down an icy sidewalk.  His face landed in his cat’s water bowl, which was barely full at all.  Still, the water was enough to cause him to asphyxiate and drown. Sadly, even a tiny bit of water is enough to take down the best of swimmers in the right conditions.

Wanted by Death

In 1977 Air Indiana Flight 216 crashed and there were no survivors. There was one single team member who was not on the flight, however, surviving the tragedy much like the Final Destination movie itself.  Unfortunately, however, he would only survive a couple weeks longer, his life being taken by a drunk driver along with his younger brother.

Ejected And Run Over

In 2013, Asiana Airlines crashed a Boeing 777 into the San Francisco International Airport runway.  The plane landing was bumpy, and exposed passengers to the open air, where 3 Chinese schoolgirls were thrown from the plane.  They were some of the only passengers without their seatbelts on.  While two of the girls died on impact, one survived only to be run over by one of the rescue vehicles rushing around the scene.

Destined to be Gunned Down

The interesting case of a famous sportscaster in 2012 showcases a woman who almost diverted death by bullet.  Jessica Redfield is recorded noting that she received a strange, eerie feeling that caused her to leave Eaton Centre Mall in Toronto, Canada. The mall was then shot up, deaths in the same food court she was just enjoying.  One month later, she died in the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting.

Spear Through The Eye

The year is 1999 and the location is Liverpool.  Unfortunately the rest of the story involves a physical education instructor and a javelin.  As the story goes…the instructor loses his balance on a high jump and the javelin strikes the eye and pierced the actual brain.  He died several days later after suffering both, a coma and a chest infection.

Surviving One Plane To Die On Another

One woman is recorded surviving the attacks of September 11th (on the World Trade Center in New York), only to suffer a strangly-related death shortly thereafter. Two months following the 9/11 attacks, Hilda Mayol died as a passenger of American Airlines Flight 587 when it crashed in New York.

The Exploding Lava Lamp

In the year 2004, in Washington state, a man in his mid-twenties decided to heat his lava lamp using the stove range, rather than the bulb it came with.  The result was a high-pressure bomb-like effect that caused the lava lamp to explode, sending tons of glass shards splintering the air.  Unfortunately, one of these shards punctured his heart and he died.

Death by Rescue

In 2013, Asiana Flight 214 crashed.  It was a terrible disaster, leaving 3 people dead and many injured.  Supposedly, one of the passengers who survived the incident was struck and killed by a rescue vehicle (fire truck), approaching the scene. It should be noted, however, that there are many conflicting stories and the official ruling several years later may argue she was already dead.  Still, so many people were convinced of seeing her alive before the vehicle approached, and thus the death seems very “Final Destination-like.”

Fire Hydrant From Hell

There is a recorded case in Oakland, California involving a large SUV plowing into a fire hydrant and turning it into a rocket.  This rocket was propelled by the insane water pressure in the hydrant finally being able to bust loose the hydrant.  In this case, the hydrant shot off and impacted the back of a man’s head, killing him instantly.  Supposedly, the fire hydrant still continued another 20 feet, even after striking the man’s skull.

Could Final Destination Happen In Real Life?

Final Destination movie scene on escalator with woman being saved by a man

With the large number of strangely similar deaths, it is very obvious that something like Final Destination could most certainly happen in real life. While the movies themselves were not based on true stories directly, they were most certainly inspired by unbelievable tragedy…and that is seen all the time! These deaths, however, are so close to the “level of craziness” depicted in the Final Destination deaths, that there is more than enough evidence to support real-life Final Destination-style dangers.  That said, it may be best to outfit your summer cottage with a few corks and fire extinguishers…because YOU JUST NEVER KNOW!

Most Gruesome Horror Movie Deaths Of All Time

The many years of motion pictures have given us some serious gems in the horror industry. And given that there are so many horror movies, obviously there are thousands of horror movie death scenes. Some of them are going to be a little boring, while others are extremely intricate. There are weird deaths, scary deaths, realistic deaths and violent deaths.  Some of the horror movie deaths are fast, while others are drawn out and quite long. But what are the cruelest horror movie deaths of them all?  Some horror movie monsters have more kills and some just have extreme kills. Horror Enthusiast has ranked the cruelest horror movie death scenes of all time.

Cruelest Horror Movie Death Scenes Of All Time

These are the cruelest horror movie deaths of all time. They are ranked in order of most cruel to least.

most horrible deaths in horror movies scary text

blank#1 Saw III (2006)

You wake up, there’s a device strapped to your rib cage and you are suspended in the air.  There’s a large jar of acid in front of you and a key that is disintegrating.  A tape tells you that you have 60 seconds to reach into the jar of acid, retain the key and unlock the trap before your rib cage is torn apart.  There are two equal parts of this Saw death scene that make it scary: telling the victim ahead of time what is going to happen to them and that this could really happen in real life.

#2 Hostel: Part II (2007)

The Hostel movies are body horror movies about torture, so it is natural it makes the list at least once, however, this death in particular is horrifying.  Whitney, one of the tourists, is being worked on by a club member who is about to kill her with a powered saw.  He uses the saw on her skull and freaks out when it doesn’t kill her…so someone else has to take over her slaying.  There is a brief bargain over the price, since she has already been tortured by someone else first…but someone finally re-enters to finish the job at a discounted rate.  Part of what makes this death so cruel is the total disregard for the victim as a human life.

#3 Silence of the Lambs (1991)

The monster that is Hannibal Lecter may have been immortalized in 1991 for many reasons, but one of the most memorable scenes of all is his face-eating, flesh-wearing, brutal beating and cannibalistic rampage on the two prison guards keeping him in his cell.  Soon enough, the guards themselves are hung in the cell and Hannibal is enjoying his finest, most favorite meal indeed. Silence of the Lambs may be a little older of a flick, but it still ranks rather high on the list of cruelest horror movie death scenes.

#4 Hostel (2005)

This is the second time a movie from the Hostel franchise makes the list and the scene comes from the first movie in the series.  A character named Josh has his leg drilled purely for the sadistic pleasure of the killer, his Achilles tendons cut, and then as he endures the pain of trying to escape, his throat is viciously slashed.  Most people couldn’t even stand to watch the scene, however, it was absolutely cruel enough to earn itself a rather high spot on the list of cruelest horror movie deaths.

#5 Saw II (2005)

There are a number of cruel deaths in the Saw franchise and especially in the first sequel.  One specific scene details a trap that will instantly kill the victim if he does not retrieve the key and remove the trap within a minute. The only catch is that the key is located behind his eyeball, which has been sewn shut.  The trap itself is a head clamping device that is set to the “open position,” placing many of the huge metal spikes that the victim is about to be impaled by, right in front of his face.  This scene secures the Saw franchise its second spot on the list of cruelest horror movie deaths.

#6 A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 4: The Dream Master (1988)

Poor Sheila has suffered from asthma her entire life and normally her inhaler is able to keep it in line.  When Freddy decides she’s going to be his next victim, however, the inhaler does her absolutely no good.  This death is extremely painful-looking: Freddy gives her a kiss and sucks all of the life out of her, she is reduced to only shriveled remnants of her former self.  The rotting corpse left behind is only perceived to the real world as the asthma attack that finally killed her.

#7 Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)

Carlos is a hearing impaired kid who is bunking up with a bunch of other troubled teens, also known as the main characters of this installment of the nightmare franchise.  Carlos’ death is very cruel in that it focuses on his hearing impairment. If it weren’t cruel enough that his handicap were exploited, it is by no means an easy death.  It is not quick and takes a couple of minutes.  Basically, Carlos sprouts biological-looking hearing amplifiers which allow Freddy to torture him by dropping pins from above. As the pins fall onto the metal walkways, they create painful audibles which eventually lead to Carlos’ head exploding.

#8 Final Destination 3 (2006)

The Final Destination movies have a lot of death scenes, but most of them are fairly quick deaths…which seems a little less cruel. There is one scene in the third film, however, which is suffered by Ashlyn in a tanning salon.  Unfortunately for Ashlyn, she gets trapped in a tanning bed when the heat dial is coincidentally cranked up…way up!  She dies a horrifying death in one of (what was) America’s latest greatest fads of the movie’s time.  Ashlyn did ensure Final Destination 3 made the list when death decided her number was up, LITERALLY!

blank#9 House of Wax (2005)

The House of Wax released in 2005 is actually a remake of a much older film. In this remake, there is a death scene which is extremely cruel and explains how the entire house of wax people came to be.  Wade, one of the main characters, has his Achilles tendons cut before getting all of his hair shaved off and being “waxed alive.”  The worst part is when he is discovered still alive later on by what would become another victim.  Wade dies a wax statue, presumably of the trauma, though it is never actually shown.  Even if he didn’t end up dying, everyone else in that house did, the same way he would have!

#10 Hostel: Part III (2011)

This is the third time the Hostel franchise has made the list.  In this death scene, a character named Mike is tortured before his face is skinned right off his head. Obviously part of what makes the Hostel death scenes so scary is that they could really happen in real life, however, this particular death is horrible as the skinning occurs while the victim is still alive.  This particular scene seems extremely difficult to stomach and showcases seemingly legitimately psychotic killers which are (fictionally in the movie) “around us in every day life” without our knowledge.

#11 A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: The Dream Warriors (1987)

The Dream Warriors has been often hailed as one of the best movies in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.  One of the death scenes, however, which character Taryn suffers, is extremely cruel.  Taryn is a recovering drug addict. On top of that, she has to deal with being Freddy-stalked in her dreams.  Rough life.  In one of her dreams she loses a fight with Freddy and holes open up in her arms right where she would have “shot up” back when she was using drugs. Freddy has her pinned this way as his fingers are revealed to be needles of junk.  He slams these needles into her arms and injects her, effectively killing her in the real world of a drug overdose.

#12 Alien (1979)

Before there was Life (2017), there was Alien (1979) with Sigourney Weaver and John Hurt.  In one especially easy-to-remember scene, John Hurt’s character suffers a terrifying demise when a miniature alien bursts from within his body.  Of course, the death itself only happens after watching him suffer a horrifying, painful existence, choking included.  Alien is one of the oldest movies and only sci-fi horror to make the list of cruelest horror movie death scenes.

#13 American Psycho (2000)

Patrick Bateman is one crazy psycho, literally running at his victim with a bright, silvery ax and striking him right in the melon. Of course this coming only after he calming chats with his victim and makes a few jokes.  In true psycho fashion, he continues to wail and strike the poor, obviously already dead victim. Patrick then returns to his normal, composed and well-respected behavior as if it never happened.

#14 Jason X (2001)

Jason X is often hailed as one of the dumbest Friday the 13th movies, mostly because the storyline places Jason in a spaceship some many years in the future. Regardless of how poorly the movie may have been received, it was still meant to be a serious horror flick and showcased a really screwed up death scene.  Jason takes a woman’s head and shoves into liquid nitrogen, where it is frozen (and subsequently smashed).

blankHorror Movie Death Scenes Are Getting More Intense!

There is a definite trend forming in the rising cruelty in horror movie deaths.  The classic scares of a simple, stalking slasher or a little paranoia has been far too jaded.  The horror movie enthusiasts of today prefer their movies with a little more gore and a lot of gruesome deaths.  A quick look at the release years of all of the movies for the on-screen deaths ranked above will reveal how much easier it is for a newer movie to achieve a spot on this list.  The newer the horror movie, the more likely it is to have crueler, more gruesome slayings and death scenes.

Who Became Famous From The Faculty Movie

Categories
Scary Movies and Series

The Faculty Starred A Lot Of Famous People

The Faculty (1998) was a break out movie for so many actors and actresses we now know as totally famous today.  There are many actors who had also already well-established themselves going into their role in the alien-invasion horror thriller. And the all-star cast of The Faculty work very well together, despite much of the talent being very early in their careers. The movie was hip and a real gem to be a part for everyone involved.  It is scary, suspenseful, interesting and a little funny at times (keeping it light for all types of audience members).  So, who ultimately got their break out role from The Faculty in 1998? Let’s take a look at both, some of the newcomers at the time and also some of the established actors who took part in the sci-fi horror flick!

Famous People Starring In The Faculty

There are a lot of famous actors and actresses in The Faculty. This is the comprehensive list, in order of whom most likely benefited the most from playing in the movie. Careful, there may be a couple small spoilers strewn throughout!

Josh Hartnett

When many people think of The Faculty, they think of Josh Hartnett.  He played the ultra-cool “repeating his senior year” Zeke Tyler, who drove an awesome muscle car and dealt drugs (his own concoction).  After The Faculty, Hartnett moved on to star in several other films, including horror flick 30 Days of Night.

Elijah Wood

No one can think of The Faculty without also recalling Elijah Wood‘s infamous performance as the bullied nerd that saves the world. He even ends up getting the girl in the end!  After saving the world from aliens, Wood would go on to star in the Lord of the Rings franchise (and other films).

Jordanna Brewster

Jordanna Brewster may have played a total b*tch throughout most of The Faculty, however, her character was most certainly believable and memorable.  Her break out performance in The Faculty would land her several other roles in many other movies, including the extremely popular The Fast and The Furious franchise.

Clea DuVall

Clea DuVall played the science nerd who comes up with the “full conspiracy theory” and how to resolve the situation. Her character was critical in overcoming the aliens.  Since The Faculty, DuVall has taken several other roles, both in movies and several TV shows.

Famke Janssen

Famke Janssen did a great job of playing a rather complicated role in The Faculty, a teacher that does a complete 180 degree personality adjustment.  She goes from being an innocent, shy, rather pathetic English teacher, to a snarky, witty and sleek dressing alien who knows how to defend herself.  Following The Faculty, she would become the famous Jean Grey in the X-Men series.

Laura Harris

Laura Harris had a great opportunity to play one of the central roles in The Faculty, very early in her career. She was responsible for being the new student in school, as well as the queen alien.  Playing both a heroine and a villain is complicated, but she did great! Harris has since landed roles in several other projects, including TV shows Dead Like Me, Women’s Murder Club, and the ever-popular 24.

Shawn Hatosy

Shawn Hatosy played Stan in The Faculty, a jock who decides he wants to quit the football team and improve his study habits. As other characters point out, this change in character comes at a rather convenient time, when everyone is suspicious of whom could be an alien.  Hatosy picks up several other roles after The Faculty, in such movies and projects as Alpha Dog, Reckless, and Southland.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek came into The Faculty with some previous experience, and already having attained fame.  This did not stop her from providing an outstanding performance as the school nurse in the movie, and going on to star in several other films afterwards.

Usher

Usher plays a key role in the movie, the jock that replaces Stan as he quits the football team (the team always needs a captain). He makes for a rather scary alien who becomes a problem multiple times throughout the film. Usher has obviously had plenty of success since The Faculty.

Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart is a science teacher at the high school in The Faculty.  He is both, a convincing teacher and also a terrifying alien.  He suffers probably one of the most gruesome deaths at the hand of Hartnett’s character, Zeke.  Stewart has had plenty of success, both before and after The Faculty.

faculty movie famous castRobert Patrick

Robert Patrick plays one of the most iconic villains in the movie, the coach of the football team. He is a brutal competitor, wanting to push his team to success at all costs. This obsession of success and dominance only becomes amplified as an alien.  Patrick played in many other films and television series, both before and after The Faculty.

Bebe Neuwirth

Bebe Neuwirth played the unforgettable Principle Drake, who many of the heroes and heroines believe is the lead alien.  She is very convincing, both as a good guy and a bad guy.  She is very well-known for roles before and after The Faculty.

Christopher McDonald

Christopher McDonald is the father of Elijah Wood’s character in The Faculty.  He looks, talks and acts like a real dad would from that time and does a great job of disciplining his kid.  He has been known for many films both before and after The Faculty.

Jon Abrahams

Jon Abrahams is often overlooked in The Faculty, but he plays a character that does have a recurring role throughout the film, labeled as one of the students in the high school.  He is the boyfriend that is fighting with his girlfriend throughout the first part of the movie. He later stars in many films himself, including another horror flick, The House of Wax remake in 2005.

Final Words About The Faculty Cast

The Faculty is one of the most underrated alien-horror films out there. It’s got a truly “all star” cast, and they do a great job of capturing the high school era at the time, while making the alien invasion plot as believable as it could be.  The movie is chilling, cunning, and creates true paranoia in the characters and audience alike.  Who could be an alien? Who could be the head alien? And how do you stop them?  The Faculty is a sci-fi horror thriller that all horror fans should watch at least once!

Interesting Facts About The Fright Night Remake

blank

Behind the Scenes of Fright Night (2011)

Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin put on a fantastic performance in the 2011 remake of Fright Night.  Farrell plays a sophisticated, experienced, yet rugged vampire who is hundreds of years old and choosing to feed in Las Vegas, land of the nightlife.  Yelchin plays Charlie Brewster, an average high school nerd who fights to uncover the truth about his neighbor (Farrell).  The vampire flick is a true thriller, keeping the audience on alert the whole movie through, sprinkled with enough comedy to keep make it an all-around hit.  But what are some of the interesting or surprising behind the scenes fun facts about Fright Night which have helped create the masterpiece it is today?  These are some of the most surprising facts about the Fright Night remake.

Hair Raising Fright Night Remake Trivia and Fun Facts

Even the craziest Fright Night fans are surprised when they learn some of these trivia and fun facts about the movie’s 2011 remake.  These facts are in no particular order.

Steven Spielberg

Spielberg has had his hands on a large number of masterpieces in the movie industry (both horror and otherwise).  It is not as well known, however, that he had contributed a lot of input during the production of the movie.  There is no question that he greatly influenced the Fright Night remake.

Jerry’s Makeup

Unbelievable amounts of time went into Jerry’s makeup, and Robert Englund (who played Freddy Krueger for all of the original films) will explain how horrible that can be!  While it may not have been as bad for Jerry as it was for Freddy Krueger, he did have 4 different stages of makeup, representing different phases of his anger/transformation/vampirehood.  He also had a 5th stage which technically wasn’t makeup but 100 percent CGI.

fright night movie remake picturesMost of It Wasn’t Filmed In Las Vegas

The Fright Night remake was filmed in a small suburb near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Some of it, however, was filmed at the Hard Rock casino in Las Vegas.

Original Cast

The only member of the original cast of Fright Night (1985) to appear in both other Fright Night films is Chris Sarandon.  In the remake, he is the victim driving the other vehicle which strikes Charlie, his mother and his girlfriend when they are sitting in the middle of the road.

Heath Ledger

Before Heath Ledger’s unfortunate demise in 2008, he was in early stage talks of playing the role Jerry (the head vampire in Fright Night).  Colin Farrell would instead take the role after being impressed by the previous work of the director, Craig Gillespie.

The Final Bite On Fright Night…

The Fright Night remake was an instant classic (no irony intended really), and in many people’s eyes, it was a lot better than the original.  The movie stands out as a classic vampire flick, despite its rather modern release.  The all-star cast does a great job of portraying believable roles and it keeps the audience immersed in the storyline and fighting for the protagonists. The entire tale is truly invigorating and leaves the audience feeling as though they are a part of the movie.  In fact, many fans consider Fright Night (2011) as one of the best vampire movies ever made!

The Strangest Horror Movies of All Time

Lifestyle Scary Movies and Series

Which Horror Movies are the Weirdest?

The horror movie industry has brought us some seriously twisted creations. It is very clear, however, that some of these movies invented a whole new kind of strange. In fact, many of the newer movies have very effectively pushed back the threshold for the grotesque and bizarre. From abortion babies that survived to come back on a deformed vengeful kill-fest, to animal bones in human furniture littering the Sawyer house, there are some pretty outrageous scenes out there! So, which of these very many bizarre terrors makes the list of the strangest horror movies of all time? The latest Horror Enthusiast survey reveals the weirdest horror movies ever to grace the screen!

List of the Most Bizarre and Strangest Horror Movies

This is a list of the most bizarre and strangest horror movies ever made.  They are ranked in order of weirdness!

The Human Centipede (2009)

The Human Centipede brings a whole new level of “sick and twisted” to horror.  The antagonist, a crazy scientist, collects tourists to mutilate and rearrange them into a single being: a human centipede, connected by the oral and anal orifices. The movie is so gross, it is honestly a little sickening even typing about it! Body Horror at it’s worst.

Red Christmas (2016)

Ever wonder if a baby could survive an abortion? What would happen if it did and came back deformed and in a rage many years down the road with a serious chip on his shoulder?  Red Christmas is about a terrifying plot for revenge that absolutely shatters one family’s holiday season!

Society (1989)

Society is a cult-favorite and all-around weird.  It is part dark comedy, despite most people seeing mostly just the horror.  The plot centers around a teenaged boy who finds out his parents are a part of a bizarre second life full of sadistic orgies.  Society is one of the weirdest horror movies out there, though quite graphic.

Teeth (2007)

A girl who is practicing abstinence has a biological evolution and her vagina grows teeth (dantata).  These teeth become a sexual nightmare for many a men who she encounters.  Ultimately, this is one of the weirdest horror movies out there.

House (1986)

House is about a Vietnam veteran-turned-writer who spends some time in his aunt’s house after she passes, trying to cope with the past and the loss of his son.  He winds up believing his son is still alive and that “the house” has got him.  And this haunted house literally comes to life in the weirdest, most bizarre ways!

The Village (2004)

The Village is seriously strange. The entire plot surrounds omnious, weird events that transpire in a secret and isolated village.  While the village countryside may seem peaceful and serene, what happens there is…well, not so chill. The Village definitely makes the list of the strangest horror movies of all time.

Jacob’s Ladder (1990)

This movie is a twisted story from hell…a true nightmare that the protagonist seemingly cannot wake up from.  In terms of weirdness, there is always something happening which has the audience left befuddled and wide-eyed. The plot is absolutely filled with “strange” and “confusing,” so try to keep up

The Wickerman (1973)

The Wickerman is about a detective’s search for a missing girl on a remote island.  He finds the people that live there to have some pretty strange practices and the entire movie is a mental work out.  The movie was remade in 2006 with Nicholas Cage, however, many people consider the remake much worse than the original (sorry Cage). To be clear here: it isn’t weird because it’s Pagan-related, it’s weird because it’s weird!

The People Under The Stairs (1991)

The People Under The Stairs is a pretty strange idea.  A wealthy, affluent couple decide to try and find the perfect son by kidnapping kids, adopting them, and cutting out their tongues when they are bad.  These mutilated kids are stored under the stairs, in the basement, where it is dark and filthy. The victims are kept so malnourished that they are scary as hell to encounter!

texas chainsaw massacre is weirdThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre may seem slightly out of place on the list, just because it has had so many sequels that no one considers it weird anymore, however, making furniture out of dead people IS WEIRD!  Littering animal bones all over the floors of a house IS STRANGE.  And making masks and dinner out of the victims is TRULY BIZARRE; And thus Texas Chainsaw Massacre rightfully deserves a place on this list, no matter how weird things have gotten!

A Few Final Notes…

Remember, horror movie preference (and all preference in general) is both relative and subject to change. This means that what one person considers strange or bizarre, may seem quite normal to another. It also means that a horror movie we once considered weird may eventually warm up to our taste with time. This type of evolution is very common when it comes to the horror movie industry, as society as a whole tends to become more jaded as time moves forward. This is due to the fact that newer horror movies always feel the need to out-gore and out-scare their predecessors. Thus (for example) a 60-year-old man looking back at the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and admit to himself “You know, I used to think this movie was super graphic back in the day when it was originally released, but now it seems a little tame.” In fact it doesn’t even make the list of horror villains with the most kills. When it comes to bizarre and strange, taste and tolerance will most certainly very between horror fans and overtime.
