Short Horror Stories

From cosmic horror, gothic tales to frightening urban legends we love short horror stories. We've been collecting and writing them for years now. We have horror authors from all over the globe contributing to our collection.

Short horror stories based on urban legends are where we source most of our writing from. Our encyclopedia of supernatural is an archive of supernatural lore to inspire our writers and scare our readers. From haunted lighthouses to mummified loggers we are searching the world for the best horror lore to bring to life.

We have one ongoing series "Anna Byrne" inspired by supernatural hunters around the world, this story follows Anna as she learns about her past, investigates paranormal lore and follows in the footprints of the great ghost hunters before her.

Our stories are also available in print regionally with our atlas of lore series. The first edition related to Oregon is available now. learn more about Atlas of Lore Oregon.

Enjoy these short horror stories and please leave comments for the writers.

The 12 A.M. To Nowhere

This must be the hundredth time I have woken up on this damn subway covered in blood and body parts. If I have to spit one more ear lobe out my mouth again, I swear I am going to shit a brick. Nothing changes. It is the same thing over and over. There’s the red head over there draped across the seat. One of her green eyes is dangling out of the socket and her legs are … [Read more...] about The 12 A.M. To Nowhere

Haunting light over a desk

Entry One: Theodosia by Ezekiel Kincaid I leave these words and experiences behind so those who come after me might not feel so alone. Stephen King called this gift “The Shining”. Others have called it the Third Eye of the Sixth Sense. I call it The Reach. It is the rare, yet powerful ability to walk in the realm of the dead while living in the realm of the living. It … [Read more...] about The Paranormal Journal of Ezekiel Kincaid – Entry One Theodosia

Spooky Journal and candlelight

Sometimes, it’s not just the living who need help moving on from the past…but the dead.   I set the recorder down on the kitchen table. “Do you mind if I record our session together?”  “No,” Sara said, then shifted in her seat.  Sara Cane was a wife and mother of five. She had long blonde hair and deep brown eyes, which in those moments, were full … [Read more...] about The Paranormal Journal of Ezekiel Kincaid Entry 2: Michael
